Elderly Woman Found Dead; Clothes Burnt

Taihape Boy Suffers Gunshot Wounds

NEW PLYMOUTH. Last Night (PA)—An elderly woman was found dead at her home at New Plymouth today with her clothes almost completely burned and the chair in which she was sitting badly charred. She was:Mrs Emma Fraser, aged 65, widow. She was seated in the kitchen in front of a lighted range when found. It is thought possible that the fire was started by a cigarette, but investigations today had not shown wheher she died from a recurrence of a strake or from injuries when her clothes caught fire.

TAIHAPE, Last Night (OC).—Suffering from gunshot wounds in the back, Peter Ireland, aged 15 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Ireland, of Taihape, was admitted to the loca’ public hospital following a shooting accident at Tiriraukawa. Peter was a member of a party who travelled to the Tiriraukawa district by truck to enjoy a day’s sport, and apparently it was while a shotgun (.410) was being removed from the lorry that it was discharged and the boy was wounded. From enquiries made at the hospital today it was learned that he is making satisfactory progress towards recovery.
