Pirates

Winners of the senior title last season. Pirates are confident of again giving a good account of themselves. Recently they journeyed to Hunterville and successfully challenged for the President's Rose Bowl. The return of F. Taunton from Waverley and N. Anderson from Wanganui and Old Boys will give added strength to the backs T Bristol will again be seen in the role of full-back. J. Hickling, D. Cotton, Les Heal and J. Bryers are all turning out again. M. Dixon will be the team’s half-back. T. Eden, who is reported a very useful hack, has joined the Pirates Club and should prove an acquisition. Forward the team will again have

the services of N Brown and D. Beard (both representatives on the southern tour), Len and Ron Head, Ben Pedley. B. Whatnough, M. Howes and T. Hall. A rugged forward, V. Bell will again be doing duty for Pirates. W. Clark, who played for the North Island Railways team last year, has joined the club and will fill one of the places in the pack. With the match against Hunterville and playing in the Pirates Rugby Clubs’ tournament in Palmerston North over Easter, Pirates will take the field for the opening match of the season with confidence.and combination.
