Marist

A club that fosters a good team spirit and is ever ready to promote a promising young player, Marist reports both losses and gains. A severe loss is their last season’s full-back. W. Mosley, who is located in the South island. Half-back G. Corn ford has been transferred to Wellington. Those two industrious forwards, the O’Leary brothers, and J. White another useful forward, have retired, while McPhun, who had a strenuous season in athletics, will not be turning out this season. Traditionally a forward team, Marist will have a light but rugged pack which will include: N. Lash (who it will be remembered broke a leg in the first match last season), J. Heagney, M. Pettis, F. Huwyler and N Crowley, a brother of the All Black. Managh, who was representative hooker in 1947, will also be donning the Marist jersey this season. D. Brown, another forward, will be turning out later in the season. Two others who will infuse dash into the pack are Waters (a newcomer), and O’Leary, a cousin of the two brothers who have retired. The personnel of the backs will include Wallace, who will be full-back, Corliss, Takarangi. Rasmussen. Lamont and Oliver. The last-named will fill the role of half-back. P. Bowen is a promoted player and K. Williams has also claims for promotion from junior ranks. Ray Bruce, the star Marist back of last season, is a doubtful starter.
