DEATH OCCURS OF WELLKNOWN CRICKET WRITER

The death has occurred in Christchurch of Mr. Thomas Wilson Reese, well-known throughout New Zealand for his two volumes covering the history of New Zealand cricket. He was 82 years old. Though Mr. Tom Reese did not reach the same prominence in the game as his younger brother Dan (now in Melbourne) he played for Canterbury between 1888 and 1907. A most unusual performance on his part was in his second season when he fielded as a substitute for Canterbury against Auckland and caught four of the first batsmen to be dismissed. His fielding was the strongest point of his play. He was at one time treasurer of the Canterbury Cricket Association and also a delegate to the New Zealand council.
