Keen Demand For WellBred Hacks And Ponies At Wanganui Fair
A record entry of 310 horses attracted an excellent attendance of buyers from all parts of the North Island at the recent Wanganui autumn horse fair, report the auctioneers. Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd. The crowd present was estimated at 2000 and seating accommodation was overtaxed. Bidding was particularly keen for good well-bred hacks, pones and jumpers up to show ring standard, both broken and unbroken. Some good pones and hacks sold at figures very little below top prices. Unbroken heavy horses were very hard of sale and there was a very limited demand for broken heavy horses. In the unbroken section chief interest was centred on Messrs. Glenn Bros, annual entry of half-bred Arab hacks, which again commanded keen competition, the top price of £4l being paid by Mr. E. J/ Rogers, of Ngaruawahia. An entry broken-in, on behalf of Glenn Bros., sold at £45 and a 5-year 13.7 hand grey pony,-on account of W. F. Carveil, also made £45.
