BRITISH WOOL CLIP FELL LAST YEAR
LONDON, April 13 (Rec. V. 15 p.m.)
. The British wool clip fell by about 17,G00,0001b., from 86,900.0001 b. to •39. 500,0001 b., a drop of nearly 20 per cent., in the year ended April, 1948. These figures are shown in a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture. Since 1938 the British clip has fallen gradually from 110,000,0001 b. per vear to the latest known figure of 69,000,0001 b., a drop of about 36 per cent. No official explanation for the decline is given, but in commercial circles it is largely attributed to war factors, including the need to put more land under the plough.—Special Correspondent, N.Z.P.A.
