’I Mr J. H. Dark, a prominent figure 1 in Wanganui pre-war sporting circles, ■ ( leaves today for Australia. He will | be accompanied by his fiancee, Miss Aileen Bruce- of Adelaide. i i Miss Bruce has resided in Wangaljnui for the past 18 months and has been engaged in the hairdressing busi- - 11 ness. The couple will be married in 1 1 Adelaide this month and will later ’ I make their home at Maryborough, ’! Queensland. I As a member of the Technical Old ’ I Boys’ Cricket Club Mr Dark gained | Wanganui representative honours. He . > was a representative table tennis i player and participated at national J| tournaments. He aid much to further | the progress of the game in Wanga--1 nui. He was also a prominent soccer 1 player. Mr Dark enlisted for service in the Navy in December, 1939. In Novem- ’ her, 1940, he left New Zealand aboard the Rangitane to train overseas for I the Fleet Air Arm. When two days ’ (cut from Auckland the Rangitane was attacked by the German raiders Orion ! and Komet. Mr Dark was among ’j those captured and later spent four and a-half years as a prisoner of war. ‘I He resided in Queensland after the I war, but returned to Wanganui at the beginning of 1948.
