CHECK ON CYCLES AND CARS TO BE HELD IN WANGANUI SOON
Motorists and cyclists in the Wan-! ganui district will be stopped '> Inspectors of the Transport Department, in the nea r future during the Domin-ion-wide cneck which begins on April 20. The inspectors will make a drive on bad cycling and motoring habits and where flagrant breaches are observed they will prosecute in the case ol adults. A check will also be made on car headlights on the same lines as in previous years, attention being directed to lights that are too high, incorrectly focussed or otherwise faulty aqd a watch will be made for vehicles without tail lights. In the case of cyclists, an effort will be made to reduce the incidence of cycling .without lights, riding “no hands’’ and cycling on footpaths, the latter being a particularly common offence in Wanganui, particularly in areas where the street surfaces are rough. Many cyclists have not litted red reflectors to the rear of their cycles and others have failed to paint an area of the rear mudguard white. These derelections will be brought to the notice of offenders. It is understood that the check isj being made as a result of the lack of essential equipment found on far too| many machines during road safety! weeks in different centres. 1
