, ,1 } AUCKLAND, Last Night (Special). —Revelling in thv easy going, Valley , Boy added another win to his credit by capturing the Services Handicap, the principal race at Ellerslie on Saturday. It was only after a hectic lin--7 ish that he pulled it off- as h’e was 71 well back with Contango at the home Ilturn and then came home in characilteristic fashion. 7| This was Valley Boy’s first success 11 of the season and he is now nine years 7 old. Gay Rosina and Idle Jest were 7'prominent going out of the straight 7 and they led along the back from Silver Sam, Mountain Glory, Conspiracy, Tamaiti Kino, Contango and Quick March. Silver Sam ran up on the in- » side to join Gay Rosina at the five, 1 1 and there was little between them at JI the three, where Idle Jest. Tamaiti r Kino, Mountain Glory, Conspiracy and 1 Redingote had closed up, while Quick 1 March, Valley Boy and Contango were in the ruck. Idle Jest flashed into the lead momentarily at the bottom of the straight but was soon done with. , Silver Sam was then left in the van >land he held on until h’e was literally 2 swamped near the post, where Valley Boy. Conspiracy and Redingote headed him off in a very fine finish, half-1 necks separating tht? quartet, and Earldale was right up fifth. A length away came Saffron Wai-; I den, Prince Rana and Tamaiti Kino jin a bunch- It was a spectacular con-1 [ test throughout and a rattling good | I finish. The honours were with the i ; first two home, for they were giving' j , away plenty of weight. Redingote ran ' . 1 up to his best form, and Silver Sam j displayed his customary dash. Saf-1 1 fron Walden tailed the field most of' the journey and did well. Contango < ) was never in the picture and Quick ’lMarch did not like the easy ground, 'l Chubin defeated a brilliant field in i, the Hauraki Handicap by coming with ';a late run on the rails and was clear j at the post, where Rosslare had also t run on to get second ahead of the -i Paeroa winner- Beau Reve, with ReI gality, Coonbridge, Chastcourt and Rizzio next to finish. The winner paid - nearly a score and this was her first 1; success since the spring. ii Regality tried to win ail the way. 1 f Chatscourt trailing him into the j c straight. The leader weakened 50yds. c from home and he was beaten into C fourth place. Good races came from all those named. Sleepy Fox and f< Rizzio started from wide out and at F the end of the first furlong they had t only three horses behind them- Both F improved by running round the field u and Rizzio was up sixth at the turn, V so his was a really good performance. g
