N.Z. WOMEN SOFTBALL PLAYERS IN VICTORIA

MELBOURNE, March 28 (Recd. 10.50 p.m.)—People in the dignified precincts of the Shrine of Remembrance and Government House today saw the unusual sight of New Zealand women softball players clad in white trousers and long stockings opposing a Melbourne team clad in the orthodox skirts. Since- the New Zealand team have arrived on the tour on March 15 the players have evoked much interest and some controversy in women’s sporting circles over the merits and dignity of their dress. Today the New Zealanders beat Melbourne by 9 to nil in a preliminary “warm-up” before the first test against Australia on March 30. The New Zealand team has been touring the provincial towns of Ballarat and ' Bendigo giving exhibitions which have resulted in overwhelming victories for the visitors. The team has been popular wherever it has gone.
