Farming Population Of New Zealand T otals More Than 61,000
There are 61,657 farmers in New Zealand, according to a statement by the Federated Farmers. They include agriculturists, mixed farmers, dairymen, sheep farmers and tlie turions classes of smaller primary producer .. Dairy farmers and sheep farmers total" 49,533, and are the major part of lhe group. They employ 17,934 men and women, together with .">416 sharemilkers. Those engaged in agricultural and pastoral occupations total 108,873 men and 10,134 women. Dairy farmers form the largest single group, continues tlie statement. There are 2-1,473 men ang 1762 women listed in Dial class. Mixed farmers total 13,539, and sheep farmers total 12,58.3. The membership of the Federated Farmers, 47,628, represents over 87 per cent, of those- engaged in the types of farming represented by the dairy, meat and wool, and agriculture sections of the federation.
