History Will Be Made When Army Chorus Sings Handel’s “Messiah”
WELLINGTON, Last Night (j J A).— When the national chorus ol lhe Salvation Army in New Zealand sings Handle's "Messiah" next month it will be the first Salvation Army group in any part of the world to do so. This claim is made by the conductor of the 300-volce choir, Brigadier H-. C. Goflin, who said today the project had already roused considerable interest in Al my circles in other countries. The singers will come from Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Masterton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Tlie soloists, all Salvationists, are Mrs. E. Bennison (soprano) Ashburton, and Misses E. Pengelly (contralto) Napier, A. Pike (baritone) Auckland, J. Dowling (tenor) Auckland. Tlie accompaniment will be provided by Mr. H. Temple White at the organ. The performance will be given on April 30, in conjunction with the Army's National Congress, which meets in Wellington from April 28 to May 3.
