Robertson Brothers Stage Grand Finish In One Mile Flat

A stirring finish in the men's one mile flat between the two Robertson brothers, both off scratch, highlighted the sports meeting held on Marton Park on Tuesday evening by the Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club. The two Robertsons with C. Muir were off the same mark and from the ■gun set off after the limit man, R. Hausman (150 yards). Ail competitors were practically together on entering the straight for the third time where Muir withdrew but S. Robertson going out of the straight for the last time, shot ahead and he was soon followed by his brother, Dave. These two made the pace a real “scorcher,” giving no-one else a chance and with 100 yards to go, the runners were on level terms. In a great race to the tape, S. Robertson had the edge on his younger brother and won by about two yards. With the exception of the ladies events —there were only two starters —the fields were well filled, both running and cycling. H. Bennett, the R.N.Z.A.F. champion, is a competent runner and won two events. The onlyother competitor to win a like number was E. Hunt, who, having his first outing on tlie track for several weeks, received generous treatment from the handicapper and won the half-mile and one mile cycling events comparatively easily. O. Drury won the three mile just as easily. TRACK EVENTS. Men’s 100 yards: H. Bennett (3) 1, E. Houlihan (6) 2, K. Coles (51) 3. Time: 10-ssecs. Men's 220yds.: K. Coles (1-1) 1, S. Robertson (17) 2, C.
