Several breaches of the traffic regulations came before the magistrate, Mr A. Coleman. S.M., at a sitting of the Marton Court yesterday morning. Sergeant W. J. Brown eondueled the police cases and Mr. W. C. Shaw, traffic inspector, prosecuted on behalf of the Transport Department. For operating a motor vehicle along Broadway with defective brakes, James Rodgers Neil Andrew was convicted and fined 30s (costs 10s). The inspector said that in testing defendant’s brakes it was found that at 20 m.p.h.. when applying the foot brake, it took the vehicle 75 feet the stop. When the handbrake was tested 100 feet was the distance. The inspector added that the vehicle was an old type.

A sequel to a collision which occurred at the intersection of Cliff Road and Calico Line last October, resulted in Robert Leonard Cockburn being fined 10s (costs 12s) for operating a motor-car without a warrant ot fitness. The inspector said that defendant had already appeared before the court as a result of this accident and had been fined for failing to give way to traffic on the right. Operating a vehicle in High Street (without a warrant of fitness, cost Allen Bernard Nitschke 10s (costs 10s). The inspector said that defendant's vehicle was in a state of disrepair, and he understood that no Marton garage would issue a warrant of fitness, as considerable work required to be done Ito the vehicle. I A fine-of £5 (costs 12) was imposed !on Neil MacDonald, for exceeding his heavy traffic licence at Rata. The inspector explained that defendant was carrying a bulldozer on his truck which carried a heavy traffic licence for which the quarterly fee was £4 ss, whereas the weight of the bulldozer put the vehicle in class N, the quarterly fee of which was £ll 14s.
