The weather favoured the Sunday Schools of the Waverley Parish for their annual picnic, which was held at the Waverley Beach on Saturday, February 19. This year Waitotara and Maxwell Sunday Schools joined the. Waverley Sunday School instead of having three separate picnics. About 70 children were present and all thoroughly enjoyed the outing. The children were divided into three groups according to ages and each group moved round the various sections of the beach allotted for games, races, and treasure hunts and sand castle competitions. At the end of the day all the children were assembled for the tug-o-war. Prizes for the winners were presented by Mrs. H. S. Barrow, a former superintendent of the Waverley Sunday School.

WAVERLEY DRUIDS LODGE NOTES The lodge held a very successful picnic on Sunday, February 13, travelling by bus from Waverley to the Kaupokonui Beach. Only the leaders and organisers of the picnic knew where it was to be held and many guesses were made as to the destination of the bus. Races, games, and all the usual fun of a picnic was enjoyed and one very amusing feature was the married women’s and men’s races and the unofficial presentation of a very dubious cup to Mr. F. Hickford by Mr. S. Kitney as winner of the married men’s race. A thoroughly enjoyable day was spent by children and adults alike. SOCIALS. The fortnightly socials held by the lodge last year and which proved very successful functions, are to be held again this year, commencing on Friday, February 25. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH FAREWELL WAVERLEY, Feb. 22 (OC). A farewell social evening was held in the Parish Hall by the members of the Presbyterian Church to Mr and Mrx W. G. Wall- Mr D. K. Chamberlain and Mr Don Robertson, speaking on behalf of the managers and congregation, warmly praised the work both Mr and Mrs Wall hav e done for the church. The Rev. M. G. Milmine, presenting them with a lovely fireside chair, said how they would be missed in the many spheres of church work in which they so ably assisted. Musical items were contributed by Mrs R. E. Lennox, Miss M. Grant and Mr E. J. Kelly. SCOUT TROOP GAINS SECOND PLACE At the annual scouting competitions held this year at Okaiawa the Waverley Troop gained second place over all at the close of the day. Owing to some error the troop was not advised about the South Taranaki competitions and did not know they were being held until the night before, and therefore had no time to practise. Credit for the way the boys gained their second place is reflected on their Scoutmaster, Mr L. M. Fairbrother. The different sections won by the troop were firelighting, ambulance, lashing and chariot race and flagpole erection from staves.
