AFFORESTATON OF WANGANUI RIVER AREAS
Sir,—l read with interest the article by "J.S.A.” in this morning's “Chronicle" under the above heading. I agree with him that pines are not the only trees suitable for forestry in this area. Many other valuable trees grow well and are certainly desirable if they can be grown commercially. This will depend upon technical information about rates of growth, present and potential demand etc., which “J.S.A.” may be in a position to obtain.
It is evident that “J.S.A.” and th® Chamber of Commerce are thinking along similar lines. This is a big scheme, and the more brains there are working on it, the better the prospects of success.
