Brevity and clarity are the two main essentials looked for in this column), APPRECIATION OF ARTISTS Sir, —May I, through the columns of your paper, express my admiration of the work of our local artists at present on view at the Sargeant Gallery. It is reassuring to know that, midst the modern pursuit of pleasure at movies, race-meeting etc., there are a few people who still, by contributing to it, keep a cultural spirit alive in the community. The late Oscar Wilde once remarked to a friend that art should be discussed more instead of trivial everyday happenings of which we are always aware. —I am, etc., “APPRECIATIVE.”
