BROKEN HILL IS TO RESUME
SYDNEY, Feb. 17 (Rec. 12.4 a.m.) —Terms for a settlement of the dispute which threatened to close the Broken Hill Proprietary Steel Works, Newcastle, were agreed to today at a compulsory conference called by the Coal Industry Tribunal (Mr. F. H. Gallagher).
The miners’ representatives agreed to recommend resumption of work tomorrow. The men are expected to accept the recommendation at pit-top meetings tomorrow morning. The terms agreed to at the compulsory conference today vver? that the mines resume work at the normal starting time tomorrow on The basis that for a period of two weeks, commencing on February 21, the locomotive driver over whom the dispute ccurred, shall continue to drive an electric locomotive with an instructor.
The employees agreed to abide by i any decision of the Minister of Mines 1 in relation to the issue of an electric ' motor driver’s certificate to the man involved. The employees further ! - agreed that if no decision is announc- ' cd by the Minister of Mines within a fortnight, the driver concerned is to ' drive a locomotive unaccompanied.
