TURAKINA NEWS

Twenty-One TURAKINA. Feb 15 (OC).—Com-ing-of-age festivities are a happy memory for many a long year for most people, and one who has particularly good cause to remember this happy occasion is Peggy Wilson, who celebrated her 21st. birthday on Friday with nearly 150 of her friends. Peggy, assisted by her grandmother, Mrs. R. Lane, received the guests wearing a frock of green hailstone muslin with shoulder spray to tone. Dancing occupied most of the evening though toast-jiving and the usual birthday speeches claimed a i share in the entertainment. The birthday toast was proposed by I Peggy's uncle, Mr. A. Phillips of Wanganui, while another uncle, Mr. J. Lane, presented the Symbolic key. The large array of beautiful gifts was ample testimony of the popularity of the guest of honour in the district. HALL KEYS TAKEN. The caretaker, of the Hall, Mr. T. Keohane, would be very pleased if tlie person who took the hall keys during interval at the pictures on Saturday evening would kindly return them. PERSONAL Mr. and Mrs. Les Bradley, and daughter Kay, who have recently returned to New Zealand from Fiji, are visiting Turakina and are staying with Mr. and Mrs. W. Strachan. Mr. Bradley, who was headmaster of the Turakina School, gave up that post in May of last year to take a similar position in Fiji. Unfortunately, because of a breakdown in health, he has had to return to New Zealand and is at present on 3 months convalescent leave before resuming his profession in this country once more. Mrs. Dick Dunn, wife of the wellknown Hutt Valley boxing instructor, who has been visiting her aunt, Miss L. Phillips, has returned to her home. Mr. and Mrs. Colin Papps are visiting Wellington where they are the guests of Mrs. Papp's mother, Mrs. Goodwin. LOCAL NEWSREEL Picture goers on Saturday night had the pleasing experience of seeing themselves on the screen. Mr. Papps, who is a keen photographer, had his movie camera at the recent Caledonian sports meeting where he took some very intersting snaps of many of the local identities. Shots taken at the recent scout camp were also featured. For the benefit of those who were not present Mr. Papps intends showing the film again next Saturday. DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. The final shoot in a series for tha B. P. Lethbridge Memorial Cup was fired on Saturday last, resulting in a win for Mr. J. Morgan with an aggregate score of 392. C. Holdaway was second with 386, while J> Govenlock and W. Munro tied for third with 376. Riflemen have commented with favour on the decision of the club to engage paid markers. Previously competitors have had to do their own marking, resulting in a great loss of time. Ranges last Saturday were 300, 500, and 600 yards, and results were as follows: J. Morgan 33, 32, 32—97; J. Govenlock 29, 31, 33—93; C. Holdaway 27, 34, 29, 90; G. Holdaway 28, 31, 30—89; W. Munro 31, 30, 27, 88; H. Henson 30, 28, 28—86. A series of three shoots for an electric jug donated by Mr. A.
