ATHLETES DO WELL IN CHAMPIONSHIPS For such a small club, Taihape athletes performed very well at the West Coast (N. 1. Athletic Centre’s meeting. Colin Crimp won two junior tit! I—first in the long jump with w jump of 19ft. Ilin., and first in the 100 yards in’ 11 2-10 sec. against a very stiff breeze. He was also second in the final of the 220 yards. The winne r of this event, Shrimpton, broke the centre record of 23 2-ssec. N Pearce, L. Jensen and R. Jenkins all started in the finals of their respective events and ran into placings. CRICKET LEADERS HELD TO DRAW Mangaweka. leaders of the Taihapp Cricket Sub-Association’s competition, were held to a draw on Sunday by the improving Taihape B team, which the previous week had deposed the then leaders, Taihape A. Yesterday, honours were with the Taihape team, who made 180, Mangaweka having lost seven for 114 at stumps. In the other game, Colts, in their first innings, were routed by Taihape A for 67 runs, who ran up a good score before putting Colts in again. Colts retaliated by making 200 runs in two hours, G. Terrill scoring a century. Three century partnerships were registered in the day’s play—los for Taihape by R. Woodhead and I. George, 102 for Taihape A by N. Ashenden and T. Whittle and 130 for Colts by G Terrill and A. Bowick. Competition points are now: Mangaweka 29, Taihape A 27, Taihape B 17, Colts 16, Utiku 8.
