Amateurs Will Play With Pros In British Golf

(Reuter). LONDON, Jan. 6 (Recd. 1.10 am).— Amateurs will this year take part in the British professional golf tournaments for the first time. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club, St. Andrews, and the joint Advisory Council of the British Golf Union have agreed to allow selected amateurs to play against professionals without loss of status. This step has been taken so that British amateurs will be at no disadvantage to American amateurs who compete in all tournaments.

A total of £27,000 in prize money will be offered during the professional season, whicli begins in March and lasts until mid-October. There are nearly 50 stroke and match-play tournaments in seven months.
