Many People In France Are Down With Influenza

PARIS, Jan. 6 (Rec. 8 p.m.)-—One Parisian in five is in bed with influenza, according to French Press reports, and 100,000 cases have been reported in Lyons. The French Ministry of Health has asked doctors to name affected areas in other parts of the country. One paper said the influenza was not “Spanish flu,” which wrought such havoc after the First World War. It has not yet reached alarming proportions, but eastern France has been particularly hard hit. It is reported that in Mulhouse and Metz c’rctors and pharmacies have been overwhelmed by nearly 20,000 patients and some factories are working at reduced speed because of absentees. Vaccines have been rushed to infected cities in case Spanish influenza should develop.
