Battle In Philippines Between “Huks'’ And Constabulary

MANILA, Jan. 6 (Rec. 11.50 p.m.)— Sixteen persons were killled and five injured in a pre-dawn battle yesterday when 400 Hukbalahaps stormed the town of Arani, in Battan province, and engaged a company of the Philippine Constabulary.

Six civilians, five “Huks,” and five of the Constabulary were killed. The “Huks” looted and burned several houses and retreated to the swamps at daylight. Another band ol "Huks” raided and looted the town of Lumban, in Laguna province, during the night, but there was no battle.
