Yacht Miranda Leaves Lyttelton For Sydney
CHRISTCHURCH. Yesterday (PAi. —Heeling along briskly under a fresh north-easterty breeze, the vacht Miranda, owned and skippered by Frank Dumergue, of Christchurch, and the first South Island entrant for the Transtasman yacht race, cleared Lyttelton heads at 11.30 this morning, on the first lap of the long run to Sydney. As the Miranda drew away from the wharf, ships in port hooted sirens Shortly before her departure a bottle of champagne was broken over her bow. With Mr. Dumergue as a crew are Sergeant Dennie Wilkes, of the police force' Douglas Varnham. licensee of the Albion Hotel, Lyttelton; and Bruce Collett, a popular young Lyttelton yachtsman. All the crew have had extensive sailing experience.
