Northern Ireland May Change Its Name To Ulster

LONDON, Jan. 5 (Recd 6pm).— Legislation to safeguard Northern Ireland's position in view of Eire's Republic of Ireland Act, is likely to be demanded by Sir Basil Brooke, Northern Ireland Prime Minister, who is coming to London shortly for talks with Mr Attlee. The “Daily Telegraph's" political correspondent says Northern Ireland Ministers are not satishfled with verbal assurances that partition will not be ended without their consent, and are seeking some statutory safeguard They also intend to press for adoption of the name “Ulster'' in place of Northern Ireland, to emphasise their distinction from the Republic of Ireland. This, it, is pointed out, would mean a change in the Royal title.
