Australia Is To Attend Conference

CANBERRA, Jan. 5 (Rec. 10 p.m.) —The Minister of Defence (Mr. Dedman) announced that the Australian Government had decided to send to the conference proposed by the Indian Government to discuss the Indonesian situation two senior officers of the Department of External Affairs, the secretary (Dr. J. Their main objective would be to explore means by which United Nations and the Security Council, in particular, could assist in bringing about in Indonesia a speedy, just and lasting settlement of fne present dispute. Mr. Dedman added that if, before the conference was convened, the Security Council acted in such a way as to make unnecessary this regional consultation, the decision of the Government might be changed.
