GERMANS DEFY BRITISH ORDER TO DISMANTLE
LONDON, Jan. 5 (Rec. 5 p.m.) Orders by the British Military Government that the dismantling of the Bochumer Verein steel irfant, at Bochum—the third largest in the Ruhr •—should be re-started met with a point-blank refusal by the management and 11,600 workers, says the “Daily Telegraph’s” Dusseldorf correspondent. Only three men turned up to dismantle the plant, weighing 15.000 tons. They stopped work when gangs of engineers arrived, yelling: “Traitors to the Reich” and “British lackeys.” Workers have already co-operated in dismantling those parts of the plant which are classified as war factories. They refuse to dismantle the remaining workshops, which manufacture railway lines, rolling stock, and half western Germany’s production of motor car chassis.
