WANGANUI DISTRICT CANDIDATES FOR THE TEACHING PROFESSION
The following Wanganui district candidates for admission to teachers’ training colleges in 1949 were approved at yesterday’s meeting of the Wanganui” Education Board, the candidates being from Wanganui city, except. where otherwise indicated:— MALES. It was reported that of the 94 students from the Wanganui district, 65 will go to the Ardmore Training College and 29 to he Wellington Training College. Of the 67 candidates who came before the board’s selection committee only two were rejected. The grading of the 65 candidates was as follow: Just suitable, no males, four females; suitable, 9 males, 15 females; very suitable, 13 males, 17 females; very suitable indeed, 2 males, 5 females. Of some 32 candidates not qualified but considered suitable, 28 have been recommended and notified that subject to passing their examinations they will be admitted, the Senior Inspector of Schools (Mr. H. C. Johnston) reported. He added that it was possible that withdrawals would take place when the results of the bursary examinations were available.
