Land Purchased For Settlement Of N.Z. War Veterans

WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA). —To the end of October, 861,958 acres have been purchased, acquired, or set aside for the settlement of ex-service-men under the Land Settlement scheme, said an official statement issued tonight. This total was apart from about 500 individual farms bought by exservicemen with rehabilitation assistance from private vendors. Already 468,203 acres have been allotted, divisible into 1226 farms (496 sheep farms, 626 dairy and 104 mixed). This left 392,855 acres with a potential of 851 farms (340 sheep, 494 dairy and 17 mixed).

During October, 787 acres were purchased, divisible into nine farms (one sheep farm, live dairy farms and three tobacco-growing units). Two of the dairy farms were in Taranaki, and ihe three tobacco units were nW Motueka. Fourteen farms were balloted for among ex-servicemen during October.
