Death Of Fordell Resident; Mr. R. G. Christie

The death occurred recently of Mr. Robert Gray Christie, of Fordell. Born in Wanganui, 76 years ago, Mr. Christie was the son of pioneer parents who arrived in New Zealand from Scotland in 1853. Mr. Christie attended both the Matarawa and Fordell Schools and later .joined his brothers who were engaged in wool carting and other activities in the Mangamahu and Fordell districts. Later, Mr. Christie farmed successfully on the Wanganui River and on relinquishing this propertv took up land in Fordell, where he had been farming for more than 25 years. Mr Christie is survived by two sens and four daughters. The sons are Messrs. Robert (Long Acre), and James (Matamata). The daughters are Mesdames M. L. Smith (Fordell) and Belton (Lower Hutt), Misses Jean and Nancy (Fordell). The interment took place at the Matarawa Presbyterian Cemetery.
