Improved softball was seen on the Gonville Domain on Saturday when a further series of matches was played in fine weather. In the men’s section, Red Sox 0,6, 3,5, 0, o—l 4, beat Star, 1,0, 0, 0. 0,1, I—3. Red Sox played good ball throughout the game, fielding many good hits. Star revealed better team work. B. Mahoney took some fine catches in the game. J. Payne (Star) made a home run. Wanganui East, 0,3, 1,2, 7,1, 0 — 14 beat Giants, 1. 0,1, 0,0, 0, 0,-5. Giants failed to counter the successful tactics of their opponents. C. Crouchers pitching was well up to form. W. Thomas proved sound at catching. Well placed hits by the winners made fielding difficult for the losers. United won by default from Aces. In the woman’s A section Amazons opened on a strong note against Dodgers but fell into errors in the final stages but this did not prevent them winning by a comfortable margin. The losers found A. Hood excelling in all round play. Scores: Amazons 3, 6,1, 1,0, 0, 11 beat Dodgers 1,0, 0,0, 0,0, 0, I—2. Children's Garments held an early lead against Hinemoa, but failed to hold it over the final stages c.f the game and were beaten. Scores: Hinemoa: 0,3, 2,6, 3,4, 3—21 beat Children’s Garments: 4,1, 2,0, 1,1, o—9. Section 2: Junior Labour League were overwhelmed against St. Marv’s. Scores: St. Marv. 5,2, 4,8, 5, 5—29. J.L.L.: 0,0, 3, l, 0, o—4. In a well contested game M.I.A. beat Star by 13 to 11. Scores: M.1.A.: 3, 1. 3, 0. 0,5, I—l 3. Star: 0,1, 3,1, 4,1, I—ll. Home runs were registered by Gabbe, Cowley, River and Kendrick for Star. Te Weri secured one for M.I.A. Schoolboys: M.I.A. 13 beat Wanganui East 11; Rangers 14 beat Tigers
