Naval Men Who Were In Strike Said To Be Victimised
AUCKLAND, Last Night (P.A.)— Former naval ratings who had been dismissed from the service after taking part in the strike at the Devonport base last year were still being victimised, said the president o. the Auckland branch of the ex-Royal Naval Men's Association (Mr. G. Tuck). One former rating had advised him that he had been refused a business loan by the Rehabilitation Department. the reason given being that he had taken part in the strike. Mr. Tuck said an officer at the department had shown the man a list of all those who had been dismissed after the strike. Twelve names were underlined in red and the officer had explained that in all probability Jiose men were classed as ringleaders. He had stated that instructions had.come from the Naval Board that none of the men on the list were to be granted business loans, and that the list had been circulated among all Government departments • with an .instruction that the men were not to be given employment. Another example oC victimisation hart been reported to him, said Mr. Tuck.' A former rating who had been working for the Railways Department had been dismissed recently His foreman said the reason was that he had taken part in the naval strike.
