GREECE IS UNDER MARTIAL LAW

Cabinet Crisis Looming

LONDON, Oct. 30 (Rec. 6pm).—A Greek Cabinet crisis is looming in Greece, where martial law has been proclaimed and a state of seige proclaimed throughout the country. The army has taken over the maintenance ofc public order from the civil authorities, says Reuters Athens correspondent. Military courts have been set up and a curfew imposed. Liberal members of Parliament will meet tomorrow to consider the proposal of M. Sophicles Venizelos, former Vice Prime Minister and deputy Liberal leader, to end the present Liber-al-Popuiist coalition. Mr. Venizelos called on King Paul today to press the need for a "super-party” Government instead of the present LiberalPopulist coalition. He reported that Venizelos and his friends had already signed a declaration withdrawing their confidence from the present Government.

Mr. Sophoulis (Prime Minister) declared that a Cabinet crisis was unavoidable and he may resign within 48 hours. The Associated Press Athens correspondent said that Mr. Sophoulis said there was no basis for compromise between him and Mr. Venizelos. The British United Press Athens correspondent says Greek rebels shelled F.'orina last night, when more than 150 shells hit the town. Casualties were one girl killed and ten wounded.
