Australian Smoke Causes Haze In Wanganui Area
Yesterday, on a day when there was a definite indication of summer in the air, an atmosphere of autumn was imparted by the presence of a fairly thick smoke haze in the Wanganui district. It had travelled all the way from Australia!
The presence of smoke was not noticed in the city, but out in the country areas it was very noticeable, sufficiently to make eyes smart.
A Press Association message from Auckland says that softening distant, views and limiting visibility to between six and 12 miles, a smoke haze from the recent bush fires on the Australian East Coast hung over Auckland this morning. The smoke had been reported by aircraft coming across the Tasman Sea, said an official of the Auckland weather office, and it reached Auckland on Wednesday afternoon. IC was thickest, however, this morning, and it could be noticed that it gave a definite bluish 'tinge to the long view.
