BRITAIN SAID TO BE SENDING BRIGADE OF GUARDS TO MALAYA
Recd. 11.5 p.m. Singapore, Aug. 17. Revelations from London that “a whole brigade group” of reinforcements will shortly be sent to Malaya in response to a request from the Malayan authorities has caused surprise in Singapore, where the movement hitherto was a “top secret.” The London reports, the Associated Press says, today were splashed in the Malayan press. They say the brigade of reinforcements is likely to be made up of Grenadier, Coldstream, Irish, or Scots Guards. They add: “The decision to throw in Guardsmen in Malaya’s battle came after a conference in Singapore early this month of British military and cjvil leaders in SouthEast Asia, which appealed to Whitehall for reinforcements.
“This is the fourth Malayan ‘top secret’ which is reported to have leaked out from Whitehall in recent weeks.”
