Mrs. Christina Dow Celebrates Her 93rd Birthday
Mrs. Christina Dow, of Harrison Street, who has lived in Wanganui for 61 years, celebrated her 93rd. birthday on Monday, when among many messages of congratulations received was a telegram from the Prime Minister, Mr.. P. Fraser, and also a message from the Mayor, the Hon. W. JRogers. M.L.C. Although born in Richmond, Victoria, Mrs Dow has lived in New Zealand since she was five years old when her parents made their home in the South Island. Her husband, who died some IS years ago, was a well-known local painter.
Mrs. Dow is still active and enjoys brief walks, sometimes with the aid of a cane. Her eyesight is good, and she wears glasses only for reading. Five members of her family of four daughters and five sons live in Wanganui. They are Mrs. N. Bond, Messrs. William' Dow, James Dow, Jack Dow and Claude Dow. A daughter, Mrs. C. Hedges, lives at Oamaru and another, Mrs- W. Wakely, at Petone. Deceased are Mrs. K. Byers, formerly of Wanganui, and Mr. David Dow.
