U.S. Military Police Arrest Soviet Governor For Speeding In Berlin

Recd. 8.40 p-m. London, June 26 American military police arrested Marshal Sokolovsky for speeding in the German suburb of Wannsee, reports the Associated Press correspondent in Berlin. Sokolovsky apparen ly was motoring to his home in another suburb. It is not known whether the arresting police recognised the Soviet Military Governor. Thev telephoned headquarters to ask for a Russian-speak-ing liaison officer, and to inquire wnether they would take Sokolovsky to beadquarters. They were told to release him. It was learned later that Genera! Clay sent Sokolovsky what is described as "a little note of apology.”
