Plans To Establish Singapore As Main Pacific Naval Base

Recd. 6.35 p.m. London, June £ Plans to re-establish Singapore a.the principal British naval, military and air base in the Far East, are being considered and an announcement will probably be made shortly, according to the “Daily Telegraph’s” political correspondent.

Such a decision, he says, would involve moving headquarters of the Britsih Pacific Fleet from Hongkong, but there is no question of British withdrawal from Hongkong, which will remain an important naval station. The decision to reopen Singapore, he adds, will be on strategic grounds.
