LORDS CERTAIN TO DEFEAT BILL

MEASURE THAT CURTAILS ' THE POWER OF PEERS

Recd. 6.50 p.m. London, June 9. It seemed certain last night that the House of Lords will today reject the Parliament Bill, which limits their powers. Liberal Peers are expected to support the Government when a division *akes place this evening, and a number of unattached Peers will also be in the Government lobby, but even the “Daily Herald” admits this will not be suffic.ent to save the Bill, which reduces the time the Lords can hold up a measure sent to them by the House of Commons from two years one.

In these circumstances, the paper adds, the Government will carry the Bill to the Statute Book under the procedure of the Parliament Act of 1911, meaning that the present Bill will become law in December, 1949.
