Slaughter Of Native Pigeons In Upper Waitotara District
Concern at the slaughter of native pigeons on their roads is expressed by settlers in the Upper ./aitotara district. They are offering a reward of £5 for information leading to the conviction of any person for this offence. » In an interview yesterday, Mr. A. R. Annabell said that shots were heard recently and investigations disclosed that native pigeons were being shot from the roadside.
A dead pigeon was found hanging in the branch of a kowhai tree above the road and beyond reach of the person who shot it. The bird was retrieved by settlers, who found that it had been killed by a shotgun. Mr. Annabell added that the pigeon had been sent to the Waitotara Police Station, with details of the circumstances. A reward of £5 was being offered for information leading to the conviption of the offender, or future offenders. !
