Cleaning Of Marton Reservoir Cost Council £560
(0.C.) Marton, June 9. The special work carried out at the Upper Tiitaenui reservoir during thb last two months cost the Marton Borough Council £930. This was disclosed in a report presented by the town clerk, Mr C. C- McDonald, at the monthly meeting of the Marton Borough Council tonight. Cleaning the reservoir cost £560, building the concrete culvert, £270, and repairs to plant £lOO. “The completion of this work will be of great future benefit* to the water supply generally. The removal of the grass and vegetation from the dam will ensure clean water being delivered to the filters and the operation of the floating arm will dispense with the use of the syphon system, giving much more efficient control and a considerable saving in power costs, stated the town clerk, who added that special provision was being made in the estimates fjr the cost of this work. Dealing with the water supply account for the 12 months ending March 31 1948, Mr. McDonald said that full operations for the year showed a credit balance of £42 10s lid, the annual charge on loans being met from special rates. The year commenced with a debit balance of £496 15s 9d, the main items of expenditure which totalled Ils Gd, being salaries and wages £J»I 15s sd, lime and alumina £4lB, engineers’ fees £3lB, pipes and fittings £ll7 14s 9d. Revenue totalled £2913 18s 2d (separate water rates £4oj 14s 7d. railways and schools £1512 13s bd, sale of water £729 6s 7d, being the main items). ..
