TECH. OLD BOYS AND ATHLETIC REGISTER WINS LEADING TEAMS MEET ON SATURDAY. Matches under the control of the Wanganui Football Association were continued in fine weather on Saturday. Both Tech. Old Boys and Athletic continued in winning vein. The two leaders meet next Saturday, and the contest should provide one of the best games of the season. On Victoria Park, Athletic were in splendid form against Eastbrooke, and but for the sound display in goal by Hubbard, Athletic might have scored more goals. As it was Athletic won by 8 goals to 1, and in winning displayed good football. Halfbacks linked up well with the forwards and as a result the Eastbrooke defence was kept busy. Mutimer was in good form and scored four goals. Ocher goal scorers were Wellwood (2) Ander (1) and an Eastbrooke defender deflected one past his own goalkeeper. Strangely enough, Eastbrooke’s goal was scored in a similar manner. For Eastbrooke, Hubbard, Croucher and Kendrick were outstanding against a fast moving attack. The referee was Mr. A. Thomson. RANGERS IMPROVE. On Cook’s Gardens Rangers gave a much improved showing, and it was only the Tech. Old Boys’ better finishing that gave them victory. Rangers held the past students to a goal lead at the interval. In the second spell Tech, scored three more goals and Limpus scored for Rangers, the final score being: Tech. Old Boys 4, Rangers 1. For Tech. J. Nimmo (2), Darby and H. Smith netted, and Limpus scored for Rangers. Both goalkeepers, Hoskins and Christiansen, played well and had some splendid saves. The referee was Mr. R. Fowler.
