Survey Of Present Situation Within Palestine
Recd. 5.25 p.m. London, May 7. In a survey of the position in Palestine. "The Times’ ” Haifa correspondent says the Jews are steadily increasing their hold in southern and eastern Galilee, and hold the important point of Safad and neighbouring villages. They appear to have arranged an agreement in north-east-ern Palestine, whereby both Jews and Arabs are using the roads. Jews remain at work at Haifa's great oil refineries, although the
Arabs stopped work weeks ago. It is believed only reserves have been refined recently, because no oil is flowing through the pipeline, which ends at Haifa.
The British Army firmly controls ail entrances to Haifa, and does not allow armed Jews in the Port area, nor in the Kingsway area of Haifa's principal"' buildings. British Marine commandos control the road from Jerusalem tt> the Royal Air Force airport, at KMundia.
