Government to fight Communist; propoganda at home and abroad. j Mr. Dulles urged the United States; to establish a department of non-: military defence, whose main task, would be to expose Communist ac- i tivities throughout the world. | “We need an organisation to contest with the Communist Party at the level where that party is work-' ing.” he said, "It is not necessary to! burn up the world with atomic war. It is not necessary to keep pouring i out billions to repair damage or sabo- ’ tage. It is necessary to catch by ex- 1 posure those who are sawing away: the foundations of free societies, i Onee we demonstrated a capacity to l win the kind of warfare the Communist Party is waging, then con- 1 ditions will be ripe for peace.” Mr. Dulles added that the proposed department should, among other things, protect the free press by assuring it enough newsprint.
