Flags Will Fly Side By Side

SUGGESTION MADE AT WANGANUI IS ACTED UPON

(0.C.) Wellington, May 7. When future ceremonies to commemorate Anzac Day are held in Australia the New Zealand flag will fly alongside the Commonwealth flag. This is the direct outcome of a suggestion made by Mr. S. A. Masterson, of Burrigar, New South Wa.es, at a Wanganui R.S.A. reception to a visiting delegation from the Australian R.S.L. and it was a happy inspiration which prompted the Government to present at the reception to the visitors today New Zealand flags to representatives from every Australian State. The reception was held in the social room of Parliament Buildings, at which the Minister of Rehabilitation (Mr. Skinner) deputised for the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones), who were unable to be present. Another presentation made was that of a brass p.aque, with a suitable inscription, which the president of the R.S.A. (Mr. C. O. Bell) charged tne leader of the Australian delegation (Mr. T. Sten, of Perth), to deliver to the Mayor, aidermen and citizens of Perth in recognition and appreciation of the hospitality thousands of New Zealanders received when they visited the West Australian capital on their way to and when returning from the Middle East. The Australian delegation’s presentation to the R.S.A. was a large autographed picture of the party.
