MARAETAI TUNNEL WORK TO RESUME
STRIKE PERIOD AT AN END (P.A.) Auckland, April 11. Preparations are almost complete for a resumption of work in the diversion tunnel at the Maraetai hydroelectric scheme .which has been deserted for about a month while the men have been on strike. The outlet of the tunnel, which was allowed to flood when work stopped at midnight on March 10, was pumped out yesterday and equipment has been replaced in the tunnel. The engineer said today that he did not know how many men would be available when work began at 7.30 a.m. tomorrow, but he thought there would be a reasonably good muster. The actual number of key men missing would not be apparent until the afternoon shift began, but it was thought sufficient would be available to enable three shifts to be worked on a 24-hour basis. Contractors trucks were arriving back at Mangakino, most of them carrying a number of men.
