Shaw Saville Orders Three New 13,000-Ton Vessels For N.Z. Trade
(P.A.) Wellington. April 9. Three new 13,000 ton vessels, which will be the largest cargo ships trading to New Zealand, have be<m ordered by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Lino from Harland and Wolff, Ltd., Belfast, and Cammell Laird, Ltd., Birkenhead, said and official of the shipping company today. The three ships have engines and hulls of the same type as the company's 15,000-ton luxury liners of the Corinthic and Athenic class but will carry no passengers. The new ships, which will have great capacity for both refrigerated and general cargo, will have twin screws driven by oil-fired steam turbines. They will attain a speed of 17 knots. Two of the vessels will be built at Belfast and the third at Birkenhead.
