INVERCARGILL LICENSING TRUST TERM EXPIRING
(P.A.) Invercargill, April 9. The four-year term of members of the Invercargill Licensing Trust will expire at the end of this month. Provision is made in the Act that members may be re-appointed from time to time, but so far no advice about appointments for the new term have been received. The Masterton Licensing Trust, the second to be established in New Zealand, is an elective body and the question arises as to whether the Invercargill Trust should be elective. The Chairman of the Trust (Mr. Hugh Ritchie) said he favoured the elective system. He thought, however, that before that could be brought about, there would have to be agitation to have the Act amended. Mr. Ritchie added that he thought it. had been reasonable that Lower Hutt should have made appointments in the first place, as it was finding the money. However, the Trust was now in a sound financial position, and there was no risk involved. The Masterton Licensing Trust will begin operations on May 1, when It will open bottle stores, according to to Mayor of Masterton (Mr. W. Kemp), who with the town clerk of Masterton (Mr. D. T. Herbert) is visiting Invercargill. Mr. Kemp added that the Masterton Trust and the council were working with one end in view to make a success of the experiment.
