Mr. C. J. Whitaker, a well-known Auckland journalist, has retired from the “Auckland Star” after 37 years service. In his eany years Mr. Whitaker was dramatic critic and a police court reporter. From 1920 until 1933 ne was editor of the "Star s” sports edition.

Cardinal Spellman, Catholic Archbishop of New York, will make a short sla y in the North Island after attending tne Catholic Centenary celebrations in Melbourne, which win ue held next month. He was to have come to New Zealand in 1945 from the Ear East to thank the Government and people for their hospitality to American servicemen, but was unable to do’so .

Mr. M. G. Wadey's services as the representative of tne R S.A. on the Wanganui Rehabilitation Committee were placed on record at the last committee meeting. Mr. Wadey has been forced to resign because of pressure of work and his place has been taken by Mr. A. J. Pritchard who was for some years the local bodies' representative on the committee.
