MAORI ACCUSED OF MURDER CERTIFIED AS IMBECILE
(P.A.) Auckland, Feb. 3. A murder charge against a Maori youth arising from the drowning of a three-year-old child at North Auckland had "been withdrawn because the accused had been certified as an imbecile an& mentally unfit to plead, said Mr. Justice Finlay in his charge to the Grand Jury, opening the Supreme Court qriminal session today. His Honour said the list of 40 indictments was not abnormal In view of the fact that the Auckland Supreme Court area included one-third of the population of New Zealand. If there was any preponderance, it was offences in the cargo pillaging and theft category.
